If you have asked three Dubai agencies for a Shopify quote, you have probably received three different stories. One quotes "AED 8,000 turnkey" and never mentions the apps. Another quotes "AED 200,000+" and waves vaguely at "enterprise scale." A third refuses to commit until you sign an NDA.
We run an agency on the other side of the bill. Innovatrix is an Official Shopify Partner with a 12-person team in Kolkata that has shipped Shopify stores into the UAE, GCC, India, and Singapore. We see what UAE merchants actually spend, not what brochures suggest. This guide walks through every line item in AED — Shopify subscription, build cost, UAE-specific integrations, the apps and retainers that compound monthly, and three real budget scenarios for 2026.
No padding, no spin. If you only want the headline numbers, skip to the worked examples at the bottom.
A note on currency before we start
Shopify bills its UAE merchants in USD on the subscription line and charges per-transaction fees in AED (AED 1.00 per online card transaction). Throughout this guide we convert USD to AED at the pegged rate of AED 3.67 per USD — the UAE Dirham has been pegged to the dollar since 1997, so this number is stable. For agency build costs, we quote directly in AED.
If you are an Indian-licensed agency invoicing a UAE client, AED-to-INR sat near ₹25.5 per AED through April 2026. That matters if you are deciding whether to hire a Dubai agency, an Indian one, or a hybrid — we will come back to that.
Shopify monthly plan costs in AED (April 2026)
Here are the four current Shopify plans visible on shopify.ae, with annual billing converted to AED. Yearly billing carries a 25 percent discount on Basic, Grow, and Advanced — most serious merchants take it.
| Plan | USD monthly (yearly billing) | AED monthly | USD monthly (month-to-month) | AED monthly | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $24 | AED 88 | $39 | AED 143 | 1 store, 10 inventory locations, 2.9% + AED 1.00 card rate, 2% third-party gateway fee |
| Grow | $69 | AED 253 | $105 | AED 386 | 5 staff accounts, 2.8% + AED 1.00, 1% third-party fee |
| Advanced | $299 | AED 1,098 | $399 | AED 1,466 | 15 staff accounts, 2.7% + AED 1.00, 0.6% third-party fee, market-specific storefronts |
| Plus | $2,300 (3-year term) | AED 8,441 | — | — | Headless-ready, B2B, custom checkout, 200 POS Pro locations, unlimited staff |
The plan you actually need is rarely the one your AED 5K founder gut tells you. We have moved several clients from Basic to Grow inside year one, and a few straight from Basic to Advanced once they crossed AED 1M monthly GMV — the savings on the third-party gateway fee alone (going from 2 percent to 0.6 percent on, say, AED 800K of monthly Telr volume) recover the plan upgrade in the first month.
About Shopify Payments and the UAE
This is where Dubai merchants get confused most often. Shopify Payments is not available in the UAE. You will use a third-party gateway — Telr, Network International, Stripe, PayTabs, Checkout.com, or a regional alternative. Whichever one you pick, you pay both Shopify's per-transaction card rate (2.7–2.9 percent + AED 1.00) and the gateway's processing fee on top. Budget 2 percent of GMV for combined card processing as a safe planning number for non-Plus plans.
One-time build costs in AED
Free Download: The 47-Point Shopify Launch Checklist
The same checklist our team uses before every store goes live. Covers speed, SEO, payment testing, and mobile QA.
Now the line item that varies most. A Shopify build can be AED 8,000 if you buy a free theme and a freelancer assembles it over a weekend. It can be AED 500,000+ if you are running Shopify Plus with a headless Hydrogen storefront, B2B portal, and ERP integration.
Honest ranges for 2026 builds, agency-led, in AED:
| Build type | AED range | Timeline | What this gets you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-built theme + light customisation | 18,000 – 35,000 | 2–4 weeks | Standard theme (Dawn, Sense, Studio), brand styling, 50–100 products imported, basic Arabic RTL, Telr or PayTabs live |
| Mid-market custom theme | 55,000 – 110,000 | 6–10 weeks | Theme heavily customised in Liquid, custom sections in the editor, multi-currency, BNPL, Aramex/iMile, full Arabic RTL with translation strings |
| Premium D2C build | 120,000 – 220,000 | 10–14 weeks | Custom theme from scratch, advanced product configurators, app integrations, CRO-led design system, performance budget under 2.5s LCP |
| Shopify Plus headless (Hydrogen) | 220,000 – 500,000+ | 14–22 weeks | React/Hydrogen frontend on Oxygen, Shopify Admin as backend, custom checkout extensions, B2B/wholesale layer, ERP/PIM integration |
Hourly rates inside Dubai run AED 150–300 per hour at the agency level — what gets quoted on Sortlist and similar directories. Indian agencies on the same scope of work bill closer to AED 60–120 per hour, which is the cost arbitrage we mention later.
Theme licensing — separate line item
A premium Shopify theme on the Theme Store costs $200–$400 USD (AED 730–1,470) one-time. Most of our UAE clients start with Dawn (free) or one of the better-converting paid themes like Impact, Dawn-derived premium versions, or a Sense build. The theme is rarely the limiting factor — the customisation around it is.
UAE-specific integrations and what each one actually costs
This is the section nobody publishes properly because each integration has its own setup labour. Here is what we have actually billed clients for in 2025 and 2026.
VAT and TRN configuration
UAE VAT is 5 percent across all standard-rated supplies. Shopify handles VAT-inclusive pricing natively — but you have to configure it correctly with your Tax Registration Number (TRN), enable the right tax overrides for zero-rated and exempt categories (some food, certain healthcare items), and ensure tax-inclusive pricing displays correctly in both AED and other currencies if you sell internationally.
Setup labour: AED 2,500 – 4,000 for clean configuration including TRN-stamped invoice templates and VAT-compliant order receipts.
Tabby and Tamara (BNPL)
Both are mandatory in 2026 if you sell anything above AED 200. Tabby and Tamara each take roughly 2.5–3.5 percent merchant fees per transaction in exchange for 4-instalment payment. Most UAE D2C brands integrate both — buyers are loyal to one or the other.
| BNPL | Setup labour | Monthly cost | Per-transaction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tabby | AED 2,500 (theme placement, checkout widget, product page badges) | AED 0 | ~2.5–3% MDR |
| Tamara | AED 2,500 (similar) | AED 0 | ~2.5–3.5% MDR |
You can usually launch with one and add the second 60 days later. Tabby tends to go live faster because the merchant onboarding is more streamlined for Shopify.
Payment gateway integration
Telr and Network International (NI) are the two we set up most often. PayTabs and Checkout.com are also strong. None of them are plug-and-play to the depth Shopify Payments would be — there is real configuration work.
- Telr — AED 1,500–3,000 setup labour + 2.49% + AED 1.00 per transaction (approx). Card-only out of the box, mada and KNET as add-ons for GCC.
- Network International — AED 2,500–5,000 setup labour + ~2.49–2.79% per transaction. Better for higher-ticket merchants and for those needing tokenisation.
- PayTabs — AED 1,500–2,500 setup + ~2.49% + fixed fee. Strong for KSA cross-border.
- Stripe — Works in UAE, more familiar interface, ~2.9% + AED 1 per transaction.
Aramex and iMile fulfilment integration
You will not survive UAE D2C without next-day or same-day delivery, and that means Aramex, iMile, Shipa, or Quick. Shopify has apps for the majority of these — most are AED 0–200/month — but the real labour is in mapping your warehouse zones, weight bands, and COD vs prepaid logic correctly.
Setup labour: AED 3,000 – 6,000 for a clean Aramex + iMile integration with rate cards live at checkout, automated waybills, and COD-to-prepaid conversion logic.
Arabic RTL theme work
This is the one that gets under-quoted most often. Right-to-left layout is not a button you toggle — it is genuine engineering. Every flex direction reverses, every margin and padding flips, icons mirror, line-height changes for Arabic glyphs, and your ICU translation strings need full coverage.
A clean Arabic RTL implementation on a customised theme runs AED 12,000–25,000 depending on theme complexity. On a from-scratch custom theme where we control the design tokens, it is closer to the lower end. On a heavily-modified Dawn or pre-built premium theme, it is higher because we are unwinding LTR assumptions baked into the theme code.
A pragmatic alternative: launch English-only on day one, validate demand, then add Arabic in a focused 3-week sprint. We have done this for two UAE clients in 2025 — they captured Arabic search demand from month four onwards without burning AED 25K on day zero.
The hidden monthly costs nobody mentions in the brochure
This is where Shopify quotes start at "AED 5K/month all-in" and end at "AED 18K/month somehow." Here is where the gap goes.
Apps you will almost certainly need
A working UAE Shopify store typically runs 10–15 paid apps. The starter stack we install for most D2C clients:
| App category | Examples | Monthly AED |
|---|---|---|
| Email/SMS marketing | Klaviyo, Omnisend | 220 – 1,800 |
| Reviews | Judge.me, Loox, Yotpo | 55 – 550 |
| Loyalty | Smile.io, Yotpo Loyalty | 180 – 1,100 |
| Search and merchandising | Searchanise, Boost AI Search | 150 – 800 |
| Subscriptions | Recharge, Bold Subs | 200 – 800 |
| Page builder/CMS | Shogun, PageFly | 90 – 400 |
| Multi-currency converter | Shopify Markets (free) or BEST Currency | 0 – 70 |
| Analytics/CRO | Lucky Orange, Triple Whale | 250 – 2,500 |
| Product feeds | Feed for Google Shopping | 90 – 200 |
| BNPL widgets | Tabby/Tamara native | 0 |
Realistic app stack monthly cost: AED 1,500 – 5,500/month for a mid-market store. Plus pushes that to AED 6,000–12,000/month with enterprise tools like Klaviyo Pro, Triple Whale, Yotpo Reviews + Loyalty, and Gorgias.
CRO and growth retainer
Once a store is live, the bill that compounds is the optimisation retainer. Without active CRO, a UAE Shopify store gradually loses ground — checkout regressions, abandoned features, theme drift after Shopify pushes editor changes. A typical retainer:
| Retainer level | AED/month | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Maintenance only | 3,000 – 6,000 | Bug fixes, small content updates, app conflict resolution |
| Growth retainer | 8,000 – 18,000 | A/B tests, conversion sprints, creative refreshes, SEO, paid-channel feed work |
| Plus partnership | 20,000 – 60,000+ | Dedicated team, weekly sprints, headless features, B2B layer |
We disclose this because it is the line that surprises founders. It is not a Shopify cost per se — it is the cost of treating your store as a product instead of a one-time project. Both FloraSoul India and Baby Forest sit on growth retainers with us today; that is how a +41 percent mobile conversion lift at FloraSoul actually compounded — three quarters of weekly testing, not a single launch.
Multi-currency conversion fees
If you sell beyond UAE, Shopify Markets handles conversion automatically — but Shopify takes a 1.5 percent foreign exchange fee on every non-AED transaction (2 percent on Plus markets). On AED 100K of GBP sales, you give up AED 1,500/month silently. Build this into your pricing strategy from day one or absorb it.
Shopify Plus revenue share
Plus merchants who exceed $800K USD/month in GMV pay an additional 0.25–0.30 percent of revenue to Shopify above that threshold. On AED 5M monthly GMV (~$1.36M), that is roughly AED 4,000–5,000/month over the base subscription. Plan for it, do not fight it.
Three real worked budgets — what UAE merchants actually spend
Now putting all of the above together for three concrete scenarios.
Scenario 1 — Lean launch (Basic plan + pre-built theme + Arabic RTL deferred)
A solo founder in Sharjah selling abayas and modest fashion, AED 100K monthly target GMV in year one.
| Line item | AED |
|---|---|
| Shopify Basic plan (yearly billing) | 1,056/year |
| Theme — Dawn (free) | 0 |
| Build labour — pre-built theme customisation | 22,000 one-time |
| Telr setup | 2,000 one-time |
| Tabby setup | 2,500 one-time |
| Aramex integration | 3,500 one-time |
| VAT/TRN configuration | 2,500 one-time |
| Apps stack — minimal | 800/month × 12 = 9,600/year |
| Maintenance retainer | 4,000/month × 12 = 48,000/year |
| Total Year 1 cost | ~AED 91,000 |
| Year 2 ongoing | ~AED 60,000 |
This is a tight, honest launch budget. It does not include paid media, content, or an Arabic store — those are layered in once cash flow validates.
Scenario 2 — Mid-market D2C (Advanced plan + custom build + 2-currency + Arabic RTL)
A Dubai-based skincare brand, founded 2024, scaling to AED 800K monthly GMV with 60 percent UAE / 25 percent KSA / 15 percent rest-of-GCC split.
| Line item | AED |
|---|---|
| Shopify Advanced plan (yearly billing) | 13,176/year |
| Custom theme build with Arabic RTL | 95,000 one-time |
| Telr + Tabby + Tamara integration | 7,500 one-time |
| Aramex + iMile + Shipa integration | 6,000 one-time |
| VAT/TRN + Saudi VAT configuration | 4,500 one-time |
| Multi-currency setup (AED, SAR, USD) | 5,000 one-time |
| Apps stack — Klaviyo, Loox, Boost Search, Recharge, Triple Whale | 3,500/month × 12 = 42,000/year |
| Growth retainer | 12,000/month × 12 = 144,000/year |
| Total Year 1 cost | ~AED 317,000 |
| Year 2 ongoing | ~AED 200,000 |
This is where most of our serious UAE D2C clients land. The growth retainer is where the conversion lifts come from.
Scenario 3 — Shopify Plus with Hydrogen headless and B2B
An established Saudi/UAE jewellery brand with retail stores, scaling D2C and a B2B wholesale portal.
| Line item | AED |
|---|---|
| Shopify Plus (3-year term, yearly billing) | 101,292/year |
| Hydrogen storefront on Oxygen (custom React) | 280,000 one-time |
| B2B wholesale layer | 60,000 one-time |
| ERP integration (Microsoft Dynamics) | 90,000 one-time |
| Multi-currency setup (8 currencies, market-specific pricing) | 25,000 one-time |
| Premium app stack — Klaviyo Pro, Yotpo, Gorgias, Triple Whale | 8,000/month × 12 = 96,000/year |
| Plus revenue share (estimated AED 5M/mo GMV) | 60,000/year |
| Plus partnership retainer | 30,000/month × 12 = 360,000/year |
| Total Year 1 cost | ~AED 1,072,000 |
| Year 2 ongoing | ~AED 600,000 |
Shopify Plus is justified above roughly AED 25M/year in GMV. Below that, Advanced is more efficient.
Why hire from India to ship Dubai stores
This is the recommendation we give Dubai founders most often, partly because it is what we do — Innovatrix invoices UAE clients from Kolkata. But the reasons are structural, not loyal:
- Shopify Partner status, same as Dubai agencies. We have direct access to Shopify partner support, beta features, and the staff training that the Partner program requires. Geography does not change the certification.
- Cost arbitrage of roughly 2 to 3 times. Dubai agency rates run AED 150–300/hour. Indian agency rates at the same skill tier run AED 60–120/hour. On a AED 100K project, that is AED 30,000–50,000 saved without a quality drop.
- 12-person engineering team. Specialisation across Liquid, Hydrogen, Flutter (for paired mobile apps), n8n automation, and AI integration. Most Dubai boutiques are 3–6 generalists.
- Time-zone overlap. Kolkata is UTC+5:30, Dubai is UTC+4. The 1.5-hour gap means a 10am Dubai standup is 11:30am Kolkata. We work the same business hours; we are not waiting 12 hours for your reply.
- DPIIT-recognised, MSME-registered. UAE-licensed businesses can contract an Indian agency under proper invoicing without complications. We have done this with multiple GCC clients.
Shipping cross-border has a real cost — your Dubai team still owns content production, photography, and on-the-ground market knowledge. But the development line, especially for the heavy work like custom themes, Hydrogen, and integrations, is where outsourcing pays off.
What works for Dubai stores — three real examples
This is the section where every agency lists case studies. Ours, briefly:
- FloraSoul India — Indian D2C florist with UAE delivery zones. We delivered +41 percent mobile conversion and +28 percent average order value through a CRO-led theme rebuild and a new product detail page architecture. Ongoing growth retainer.
- Baby Forest — Baby and mother care D2C brand. AED 4.2L launch-month revenue, -22 percent cart abandonment from a custom checkout extension and Tabby integration on day one.
- Zevarly — Jewellery D2C. +55 percent session duration, +33 percent repeat purchase rate after a personalised product recommendation engine and a Klaviyo lifecycle program rebuild.
These results compound because the stores are treated as products under retainer, not handed over as a one-time build.
How this compares to building in India or Singapore
We have published a similar breakdown for India in INR and one for Singapore in SGD. The short version:
- India — Lower build cost (₹3.5L–₹15L vs AED 55K–220K mid-market), but local payment gateways are different (Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree dominate), no VAT but GST at 18 percent on most goods, no Tabby/Tamara — local BNPL is Simpl and ZestMoney.
- Singapore — Build cost roughly 25–40 percent higher than UAE in like-for-like (SGD 35K–150K mid-market), more complex GST and IRAS requirements, less BNPL adoption, more Stripe-led.
Dubai sits in the middle on cost, with the highest BNPL penetration of the three markets and the strongest mobile-first behaviour.
What is on our Shopify Dubai service page
If you are evaluating us specifically, our Shopify development service page covers our approach across all markets, and the Dubai-specific page covers the UAE-specific stack — Telr, Tabby, Tamara, NI, Arabic RTL, Aramex, the works.
Pricing on either page is fixed-bid, sprint-based, transparent. We do not do the "schedule a 60-minute discovery call to receive a quote" thing — most of our scopes are quotable from a written brief in under 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Can a UAE-licensed business hire an Indian Shopify agency under contract?
Yes, this is straightforward. A UAE Mainland or Free Zone company can contract a DPIIT-recognised Indian company under a service agreement and pay invoices in USD or AED via wire. Most UAE clients we work with route invoices through their accounts department exactly as they would for a domestic vendor. The only complication some clients flag is reverse-charge VAT — your accountant will know how to file it, and our invoices include the VAT-relevant fields.
What is the cheapest Shopify plan that handles UAE VAT properly?
All four plans handle UAE VAT. Even Basic supports tax-inclusive pricing and TRN stamping on invoices when configured correctly. There is no plan-based limitation — what matters is whether the configuration is done correctly at setup. We have seen three Dubai stores on Basic with broken VAT-inclusive pricing because nobody enabled the right tax overrides. That is a labour issue, not a plan issue.
Tabby vs Tamara — which BNPL goes live first?
Tabby's Shopify integration tends to be faster to onboard — the merchant approval flow is smoother and the theme placement (cart, product page, checkout) is well-documented. Tamara takes 5–10 business days longer in our experience but covers KSA more strongly. If you are launching UAE-only, start with Tabby. If KSA is a meaningful part of your mix, do both from day one.
Do I need an Arabic RTL store from day one or can I start English-only?
You can start English-only. UAE buyers, particularly the millennial and younger segments who drive D2C, shop comfortably in English. Arabic becomes important once you start running performance media in Arabic creatives or once Arabic search makes up a meaningful share of your organic traffic. Most of our UAE clients add Arabic in months 4–6 once that signal is clear. Doing it later in a focused sprint is also more efficient because you have already validated which categories and PDPs deserve translation.
Are hosting and SSL separate costs on Shopify?
No. Shopify includes hosting, unlimited bandwidth, and SSL on every plan. The "hosting" line you see in WooCommerce or custom builds (AED 200–2,000/month for VPS or managed hosting) does not exist on Shopify. This is part of why Shopify ends up cost-competitive against WooCommerce despite the higher headline subscription.
How does multi-currency pricing work — show me the maths?
With Shopify Markets enabled, a customer browsing from London sees prices in GBP that are auto-converted from your AED base price using Shopify's daily exchange rate. Shopify charges a 1.5 percent foreign-exchange conversion fee on the transaction (2 percent on Plus markets). So if a UK buyer purchases AED 1,000 worth of goods (~£213 at 4.7 AED/GBP), Shopify takes the FX fee and you receive AED 985 net of the conversion. To absorb this without margin loss, mark up non-AED markets by 2 percent at the Shopify Markets pricing rules layer.
Can I switch from WooCommerce to Shopify in Dubai without losing SEO?
Yes, and this is one of our more common UAE migration projects. The non-negotiables are: 301 redirects from every existing URL pattern (especially product, collection, and blog post URLs), a full XML sitemap submission to Google Search Console, preservation of structured data and review counts, and careful translation of any Arabic-language URLs that may have been encoded inconsistently in WooCommerce. We typically budget AED 18,000–35,000 on top of the build for a clean migration, and we hold rankings within ±5 percent through the cutover.
What does the Shopify Partner discount actually translate to in AED?
Shopify Partners can offer their clients an extended 90-day Shopify development trial (with a $1/month introductory rate) and access to merchant onboarding support. The dollar value of the development store discount is real (~AED 250–400 of subscription cost saved during build), but the bigger value is access to the Shopify Partner support tier, beta features (like new checkout extensions), and direct escalation paths when something breaks. We use this on every build — the discount itself is small; the support relationship is significant.
Final word
Shopify in Dubai 2026 is not a cheap platform — but it is a transparent one once you understand the four cost layers (subscription, build, integrations, monthly stack). What inflates a "AED 12K" quote into AED 60K is almost always the apps and the retainer. What deflates a "AED 250K" quote is usually you not needing Plus.
